Why Offer NCknows?

Your Patrons Will Appreciate It

NCknows has handled thousands of calls since going live in February 2004. 90% of our users say they are "very likely" to recommend the service to others. Many users express amazement and gratitude that such a service exists. We've answered calls from college Phds and elementary school students; from North Carolina's business community to local bookclubs. We handle calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We Can Help You Make the Most of Your Resources

NCknows has already taught hundreds of North Carolina patrons about resources like NCLIVE and other databases, books and resources that tend to "hide" in our libraries. Many users who are originally looking for free websites are amazed to learn about the depth of library resources in their neighborhood.

It's Free and Easy

This pilot project is currently supported by an LSTA grant. To add NCknows, you need to fill out a profile (http://ncknows.org/libprofiles.doc). After that, we will give you graphics and and a library specific URL to use as a link. After you go live, you will be asked to answer occasional questions from your patrons that could not be answered completely or are specific to your collection. Transcripts are reviewed daily- if a chat with your patron is unsatisfactory or incomplete, you will also be given the opportunity to respond. In addition, you are also free to review transcripts from your patrons at any time.

We Can Help You Reach Out to New Communities

NCknows puts the library where your users are- on the web. During chats we frequently find that patrons are unaware of exactly how valuable their library's collections are. Whether they need a government website, a children's book or a calendar of your library's events, NCknows patrons are reminded that librarians are still the best place to go for quality information.
